   a recipient of the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award, and formerly served as the Director of the National Book

   Trust under the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

•⁠  ⁠Children: The couple has a son, Shri Abhiruk Patowary, and a daughter, Smti. Kristie Kashyap.

Shri Chandra Mohan Patowary was the General Secretary of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) During the Assam Movement, he was detained under National Security Act (NSA) and Preventive Detention (PD) Act.
During (1985)
The Assam Accord was signed on 15th August, 1985 amongst Union of India, Govt. of Assam, All Assam Student Union, All Assam Gana Sangram Parishad. A new political party, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) was formed at a convention held from October 13-14, 1985 in Golaghat. In 1985, Shri Chandra Mohan Patowary joined AGP and was elected as a Secretary of the party.

In the 2026 Assam Legislative Assembly election, the results were declared on 4th May 2026. Chandra Mohan Patowary won the 40-Tihu Assembly Constituency, defeating Congress candidate Ratul Patowary by a margin of 26,496 votes.

Senior BJP leader Chandra Mohan Patowary was sworn in as the Pro-tem Speaker of the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly on 15 May 2026. As Pro-tem Speaker, he administered the oath to the newly elected MLAs and presided over the initial proceedings of the Assembly until the election of the regular Speaker.
