Shri Chandra Mohan Patowary is Cabinet Minister for Commerce & Industry, Transport, Parliamentary Affairs & Skill Development in the present Assam Government ( from 24th May 2016) which has recently completed a year of excellent governance under the dynamic leadership of Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam. Shri Patowary represents the Dharmapur Legislative Assembly Constituency in Assam. He was the Health Minister of Assam from 1985-1990 and Agriculture Minister from 1996-2001. During 2006-2011, he served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly. He was the President of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) during 2008-2011. In 2014, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Under the able leadership of Shri Chandra Mohan Patowary, a sea change has been brought out in the industrial scenario of Assam.

NEW INITIVATIVES: MINISTRY OF INDUSTRY & COMMERCE, GOVT OF ASSAM

  • North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (NEIIPP), 2007 was revived after Industry & Commerce Minister, Assam and Chief Minister, Assam took up the same with the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
  • Post revival of NEIPP, around 27 new Industrial Units with investment ranging from 50 Crores to 1000 Crores are being setup in the State of Assam.
  • Land for setting up of a World Trade Centre has been allotted and discussion with NBCC has been initiated for preparation of DPR.
  • For the first time in Assam, Land Bank for Industrial Units has been set up.
  • New Price Preference Policy for MSME Units has been formulated.
  • New State Industrial Policy is being formulated.
  • State Sugar Policy has been formulated for attracting Sugar Industries to Assam.
  • Revival of the Units of Hindustan Paper Corporation (HPC) Limited is being followed up by the State Government and the Corporate Head Quarters of HPC has relocated to Guwahati Assam from Kolkata for ease of operations.
  • Government of Assam is putting in serious efforts for revival of Ashok Paper Mill which is the oldest Paper Mill in North Eastern Region.
  • Five nos. of Food Park are being set up in Assam for promoting Food Process Industries.
  • Five nos. of FoodaUnder the initiative of the State Government, all pending works of Bamboo Park and Plastic Park have been completed and the Parks are ready for inauguration. Park are being set up in Assam for promoting Food Process Industries.
